Essentials of Business Internship Program

Purpose and Overview

The Essentials of Business Internship Program is intended to give college students the opportunity to explore their professional interest. The program is designed to assist students develop leadership skills and broaden their experiences by interacting in multiple corporate departments. The interns will work directly with department directors and managers who will promote academic and professional development through experiential learning. Interns will gain understanding of how departments function within the organization, affect the bottom line of the organization, assist with department projects, and day-to-day task within the department.

Interns will have the ability to create their own learning path by choosing 4 departments of interest. Interns will rotate departments every three weeks to maximize their career potential.

Department Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Human Resources

 

 

 

·       Review I-9 documentation and update tracking log

·       Update terminated employee files

·       Scan files into HR system for electronic files

·       Complete exit interviews with prior employees

·       Observe hiring process – Onboarding, New Hire Class

·       Complete EOI forms for Open Enrollment process

Recruiting

 

·       Screen applications and source qualified candidates

·       Schedule interviews

·       Shadow and assist with interviews

·       Maintain up-to-date candidate status in the HRIS tracking system

·       Assist Recruiting Manager with staffing reports

·       Participate in job fairs and hiring events

·       Conduct searches for potential candidates

·       Conduct field recruiting

·       Assist in Recruiting Projects

 

Learning & Development

 

 

·       Assist trainers with classroom prep

·       Assist trainers with New Hire and 30 Day Class

·       Teach a session in the 30 Day Class

·       Facilitate classroom activities

·       Identify learning opportunities within different business functions

·       Work with Instructional Designer developing training content

 

Employee & Customer Experience

 

·       Absorb Advance Financial culture

·       Attend Customer Appreciations With Customer Experience Coordinator

·       Attend store Grand Openings

·       Assist Guest Experience Coordinator

·       Evaluate Mystery Shop scores

·       Evaluate Employee Engagement Scores

·       Attend and assist Newbie Night with Employee Experience Coordinator

 

Accounting

 

 

·       Learn various accounting Roles

·       Store Cash and Reconciliation

·       Create Reports

·       Audit payables- New Vendor Setups and EFT forms

·       Research and Clear outstanding checks

·       Contact check vendors for EFT

·       Organize invoice folder

Compliance

 

·       Learn to perform complex reviews, analyses and reporting for several BSA/AML regulations

·       Job shadow Data Analyst

·       Perform account/activity monitoring with Data Analyst

·       Internal audits with Compliance Analyst

·       Assist with New Hire Compliance Training Presentation

Marketing

 

·       Research for blog content

·       Stock photo research

·       Photoshop

·       Graphic design

·       Maintenance of intranet

·       Posting articles to website secured by PR firm

·       Advertising copyrighting

·       Proofing

 

Information Technology

 

·       Diagnose and fix printers, personal computers, and peripherals.

·       Diagnose and fix issues w/ software

·       Perform account administration activities: creating and disabling accounts

·       Address security and compliance issues

·       Address network and infrastructure issues

 

Retail Operations

 

·       Shadow a Director of Retail Operations to learn the various roles of Retail Stores

·       Follow up with managers on various deadlines

·       Confirm marketing material meets company standards

·       Learn time management with daily managerial task

 

Call Center Operations

 

·       Shadow the Director of Call Center Operations to learn the various roles of a call center

·       Accurately perform financial transactions from inbound phone calls including but not
limited to payments, loan assistance, bill pay assistance and various other products

·       Conduct all verification transactions accurately and efficiently including but not
limited to validation of customer data, bank account and vehicle title details, and check maker and payee data

QUALIFICATIONS

The Essentials of Business Internship Program is open to college juniors, seniors, or grad students pursuing an education in the following concentrations:

  • Accounting
  • Business Administration
  • Communications
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Human Resources
  • Learning & Development (Secondary Education)
  • Marketing

To perform the job successfully, the individual must:

  • Maintain GPA requirements: 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Scale
  • Understand and meet the demands of a customer-centric environment
  • Have basic understanding of business functions
  • Show proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Work within various software applications
  • Candidate must meet Advance Financial hiring eligibility

Availability

 

Must be available at least ten hours per week between the operating hours of 8:00 AM- 5:30 PM. Weekly schedule will be made based on class schedule. The internship will last twelve weeks starting in August and ending in December.

Compensation

The internship will consist of 12 weeks of part time work. Participants will be compensated up to $15 per hour. All participants must work at least 10 hours a week in their chosen departments.
