On average, employers receive more than 250 applications for a public job posting, yet only about four to six of them qualify for an interview – only 2 percent! That means that you need to find ways to stand out.

At Advance Financial, we have found that potential employees stand out most if they are “go-getters” – those who seek out challenges and solutions, who have big goals for themselves and their careers, and who take active steps to achieve them.

Here are a few ways to show you’re a go-getter:

Be Proactive

This is one of our favorite characteristics to have in an employee. We look for people who take on any task without being asked. From taking out the trash in the breakroom to helping a coworker with a major project, no task is too small to show us you’re a dedicated member of the team. Don’t wait for something to come your way, seek out opportunities to get involved and use your professional skills. Those who can demonstrate their independence but still work well with others are the best additions to our team.

Be goal-oriented

Any potential employee should have a clear idea of where they want to go in their careers and what they need to do to get there. Logically speaking, you can’t be a go-getter if you don’t have anything to “go and get.” Map out your career path by thinking of your end goal and then plotting out the steps that will lead you toward it. Those steps may include training and development, which we offer at all levels of our company to encourage our ambitious employees to keep that energy going. When those goals are more obvious to you, they’ll become more obvious to others, including your employer.

Be confident

You can’t be proactive nor will your goals be fully achieved if you don’t have confidence in yourself. Don’t hesitate to put yourself out there and show what you can bring to the team. Confidence is especially key in customer service, which is one of our main facets because it enables people to successfully interact with others throughout the day. And confidence is usually tied to enthusiasm. By holding your head high and taking on new tasks or customers with a smile and a positive attitude, you’ll show your coworkers and supervisors that you mean business.

To join the Advance Financial team, you need to put your best foot forward and show us that you share our value of dedication for the work that we do. Without this dedication, we wouldn’t be where we are today: a leading financial services company helping millions of people across the nation take control of their finances. Make your passions known and work hard for them, just as we do, and you’ll be a great fit with us.
